Providing transitional care
Mercy’s Swing Bed Program provides transitional care to patients who no longer need acute hospital care but still need some daily skilled nursing or rehab services before returning home.
The Swing Bed Program allows extra time for healing and focuses on therapeutic goals designed to improve health and independence. Patients continue to recover in their same hospital room during their swing bed stay.
Some examples of conditions that could benefit from the Swing Bed program include:
- Hip replacement
- Knee replacement
- Major surgery
- IV therapies
- Falls resulting in fractures
Mercy rehab services are designed to meet the personal needs of our patients. Available services include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and respiratory therapy. Other needs may include nutritional support and/or intravenous therapies.
The Swing Bed Program is a Medicare covered benefit; other insurance companies may also cover this type of service with prior authorization.
